ELIGIBILITY

Am I Eligible To Apply To Be A Senate Youth Candidate For North Carolina? 


Eligibility Requirements

To apply for the United States Senate Youth Scholarship in the state of North Carolina, a student must be a junior or senior in high school who is currently serving in an elected or appointed capacity in student government or a related organization.  

Specifically, a candidate must be serving in one of the following capacities:

        • Student body president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer;
        • Class president, vice-president, secretary, or treasurer;
        • Student council representative; or
  • Student representative elected or appointed (appointed by a panel, commission, or board) to district, regional, community, or state-level civic/government or political organization.
Also, the student must be:
  • A permanent resident of the United States,
  • Currently be enrolled in a public, private, or charter school in North Carolina,
  • And have at least one parent or guardian who is a legal resident of North Carolina.  

 


Any eligible high school junior or senior enrolled in a public, private, or public charter school in North Carolina may apply on his/her own initiative. 

Students DO NOT have to wait to be selected or nominated by a school or school official in order to apply for this opportunity in North Carolina. 

A student who graduates or officially completes their high school coursework at the end of the fall semester/quarter is NOT eligible to apply for the United States Senate Youth Scholarship.

 

Application Process 

In order to be considered as a candidate in the United States Senate Youth Scholarship selection process for North Carolina, a student must:

Submit ALL completed application materials to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh on or before 11:59 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2017.(Applications NOT AVAILABLE until August 1, 2017.)

A completed application package includes all of the following:
  1. Application -Form A
  2. Typed Essay -Form B
  3. Digital Presentation -Form C
  4. Two letters of Recommendation (Teacher and Club/Organization Sponsor)
 

Where Do I Get An Application?

A student who is interested in applying for the Senate Youth Scholarship program in North Carolina may get an application by clicking the NC Forms button in the toolbar above. 

Any interested student who is enrolled in a public, private, or public charter school in North Carolina does not have to wait to be selected by a school official in order to apply for this opportunity.  A student may apply on his./her own initiative.
