Am I Eligible To Apply To Be A Senate Youth Candidate For North Carolina?
To apply for the United States Senate Youth Scholarship in the state of North Carolina, a student must be a junior or senior in high school who is currently serving in an elected or appointed capacity in student government or a related organization.
Specifically, a candidate must be serving in one of the following capacities:
- Student body president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer;
- Class president, vice-president, secretary, or treasurer;
- Student council representative; or
Student representative elected or appointed (appointed by a panel, commission, or board) to district, regional, community, or state-level civic/government or political organization.
- A permanent resident of the United States,
- Currently be enrolled in a public, private, or charter school in North Carolina,
- And have at least one parent or guardian who is a legal resident of North Carolina.
Any eligible high school junior or senior enrolled in a public, private, or public charter school in North Carolina may apply on his/her own initiative.
Students DO NOT have to wait to be selected or nominated by a school or school official in order to apply for this opportunity in North Carolina.
A student who graduates or officially completes their high school coursework at the end of the fall semester/quarter is NOT eligible to apply for the United States Senate Youth Scholarship.
In order to be considered as a candidate in the United States Senate Youth Scholarship selection process for North Carolina, a student must:
Submit ALL completed application materials to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in Raleigh on or before 11:59 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2017.(Applications NOT AVAILABLE until August 1, 2017.)A completed application package includes all of the following:
- Application -Form A
- Typed Essay -Form B
- Digital Presentation -Form C
- Two letters of Recommendation (Teacher and Club/Organization Sponsor)

Any interested student who is enrolled in a public, private, or public charter school in North Carolina does not have to wait to be selected by a school official in order to apply for this opportunity. A student may apply on his./her own initiative.
